 Treehuggers for Manly Arts Festival

Treehuggers 'warming' up the start of the Manly Arts Festival

Saturday 4 September 10 - 3pm at Manly Cove  -www.manlyartsfestival.com

Artist Angela van Boxtel explores recycling and eco awareness in an exciting outdoor public art project. Recycled textiles are turned into wrap
artworks, many featuring 'the artists' imprints of the natural environment. Artworks will be wrapped around the trees at Manly Cove to create
this vibrant outdoor exhibition.

As an artist Van Boxtel likes to surprise people with art. 'I want the Manly Arts Festival' to be like the festivals I know from Europe, where
the
whole streets and plaza's are buzzing and come alive. I want people to invite to enjoy art who normally do not visit a gallery or have any
interest in art.

When trying out her 'Treehuggers' this week by sunset, it's amazing to see how people respond; it opens up a dialogue and you have
conversations
about art which normally would not happen. If you can catch the attention of the busy business people folk heading home,
mostly ignoring the amazing
sunset, you have the thumbs up! The Artist loves the idea that people have to come close to see the artwork and
actually tactile can engage and touch the
fabric and bits and pieces.

Van Boxtel hopes that after the 'Treehuggers' are gone...people will slow down and remember next time they pass on Manly Cove
that they will see that
the tree's are as 'Artastic' as what will be around on Saturday.

The Manly Cove  walk runs from Manly Wharf to Manly Art Gallery & Museum.
