It was certainly a windy, rainy luncheon however the champagne bubbly and the atmosphere kept us warm inside!
Due to unforseen circumstances (family health issues) our guest speakers were unable to attend - so we did the next best thing and improvised. As Inspiring Women has never had this challenge before- we rose to the occasion.
Sue Heins gave 2 talks in 1. Firstly, with experience of an office inside a newspaper for 4 years, Sue explained the importance of getting your press release right. If the headline isn't attention grabbing, short and sweet then your release will be immediately culled without even being read. As the atmosphere inside a newspaper office is busy, noisy and tense.
A press release has to grab immediate attention and be newsworthy, short, concise, preferably written in the third person with and 'end' written clearly including a release date. There are common areas that are forgotten.
The relevancy of the second part of Sue's talk was due to the fact that it was Inspiring Women's 3rd birthday. Three years old and still going strong!
Sue explained how the idea of Inspiring Women orginated and along with co-founder Chris Andrew Inspiring Women was born. The events in Sue's life leading up to the formation of the group was a personal journey with many personal and health challenges along the way.
This then prompted others in the room to share their experiences in their businesses with lessons learnt for all of us in the room.
